Led by two top six finishers, Richmond Hill High School finished No. 20 in Class AAAAA at the state traditional wrestling tournament in Macon.
Not bad for a program that hasn’t even turned six yet.
In all, five wrestlers advanced to the state finals – Ethan Wampler at 120, Grant Foy at 126, Zach Bringer at 130, Zach Perez at 138 and Ian Phifer at 145.
Wampler finished as runner up in his weight division. Perez was fifth. The entire group had success, however.
“I carried five wrestlers and each one won a match, that in itself is a testament to how hard they have worked,” said coach Robert Parker. “Ethan has set the bar high for the underclassmen coming up with his runner-up finish. With three of the five returning and the young coming back the future is bright for next season.”
All but Wampler and Phifer return next year.
“This junior class I am sure will take on the leadership role and have us back at state with a larger number and even more wins,” Parker said.
