ESPLOST renewed on Election Day

On Election Day, voters across Bryan County decisively chose to renew the 1% Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, known colloquially as ESPLOST.

With 100% of precincts reporting, 5,799 voters chose “YES” to the resolution, amounting to 65% of the vote share. 3,118 voters, or 35%, said “NO”.

The resolution will continue a one-percent sales tax across the county to fund capital projects related to public school education.

Turnout for Tuesday’s primary elections reached 26.21% of registered voters in the county.

  • Corey Foreman (Democrat) - 9,200 votes
  • Barbara Gooby - 6,504 votes

Bryan County Commission - District 4 (Republican)

  • Gene Wallace, 738 votes
  • Jordan Given, 331 votes

Bryan County School Board - Chairman (Republican)

  • Amy Murphy (incumbent) - 3,485 votes
  • J. Scott Novinski - 1,949 votes

Bryan County School Board - District 5 (Republican)

  • David M. Schwartz (incumbent) - 567 votes
  • Megan Sullivan - 480 votes
