For Richmond Hill’s golf teams, it was a day of highs and lows at the GHSA state Class 6A tournament at Bentwater Country Club in Achworth.
The Wildcats’ girls’ teams began Tuesday’s play in second place with a 241 total (+25) behind leader Lambert. Richmond Hill finished third in the tournament last year. Junior Alexa Mohler paced the teams with a two-over 74.
Head coach Ethan Huff likes his team's chances on the final day.
“We played good, but definitely left some strokes out there,” said Huff. “We are excited about today. It’s a very challenging course, but we are going to stay focused and work on hitting fairways and greens.”
The boys’ team ended Monday in 11th place with a 322 (+34) total. Seniors Ledger Conley and Patrick Mahaffey both shot a six-over 78, and fellow senior Mathew Reynolds had a seven-over 79.
Head coach Ron Smith expected his team to have a similar outing that helped them capture the area championship. He is hopeful his team can rebound today.
“We didn’t play well,” said Smith. “We’ll be among the early teams to tee off today and not really threaten the top 5. Everyone struggled today, Ledger and Patrick both shot 78’s, and Matthew shot a 79.
“Unfortunately, it was everything bad that the area tournament was good.”
