Wildcat tennis advances to Sweet 16

Both the Richmond Hill boys’ and girls’ tennis teams advanced to the Sweet 16 in the AAAAAA state tournament.

The boys’ team, as the No. 3 seed in Region 2-AAAAAA, won at Valdosta Tuesday. The girls, the No. 2 seed in Region 2-AAAAAA, beat Houston County Wednesday at Henderson Park.

The girls will play the winner of Lakeside-Evans and Tucker in the next round. The boys advance to play the winner of Lakeside-Evans and Mundy’s Mill.

For the girls, now 12-4 on the season, Hannah Yontz and Stephanie Harter both won in straight sets at singles, as did the doubles team of Grace Cantele and Bridgett Cox.

On the boys’ side, Alec Shermer, Zach Sewell and Jackson Martin all won their singles matches, while Joe Belfield and James Shin won at doubles. The boys are now 11-5 overall, with Martin undefeated on the season at 15-0.
