Richmond Hill's Walker sets 800 record

Richmond Hill alumnus Shaquille Walker ran the fastest 800-meter race in the nation so far this year Saturday for Brigham Young, according to, clocking in at 1:44.99.

Walker’s performance came at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Arizona, and improved upon his own school record of 1:46.97, which he set in January.

“We’ve been preparing for this for quite some time now,” Walker told “I’ve been having dreams of what was going to happen in this race. It feels amazing to come out and perform well.”

Walker finished third at the NCAA Indoor Championships last month and won a gold medal at the World University Games last summer.

He is now just one of seven All-Americans to ever break the 1:45 mark in the 800, according to
