The Richmond Hill girls’ and boys’ soccer teams both won Tuesday night, wrapping up third-place seeds in Region 3-AAAAA.
After finishing regulation and overtime in a 1-1 tie, the girls outshot Effingham 3-2 on penalty kicks. Erin Gillolly scored on an assist from Sabria Marquez in regulation. Seniors Anna Petrino and Brianna Wathen and junior Logan Martin found the net on penalty kicks.
“We put the game on our seniors’ hands and they responded,” Coach Steve Kollman said.
Kollman put Marquez, a senior, in goal for the overtime and penalty kicks and she stopped four of six shots. Goalie Bailey King was injured in Tuesday night’s loss to Camden County.
The Wildcats, 10-4, have a tune-up match scheduled against St. Vincent’s Friday. Kollman said he has not found out yet when or who they play next week in the first round of the state playoffs but knows it will either be in Macon or Augusta.
The boys, 9-5-1, defeated Brunswick 2-1. They move on to play April 27 against an opponent to be determined.
