Lady Redskins beat No. 2, No. 1.

The Bryan County High School softball team knocked off No. 2-ranked Hawkinsville and No. 1-ranked Gordon Lee in Chattanooga over the weekend.

The Lady Redskins wasted no time in distancing themselves from Hawskinsville, scoring seven runs in the first two innings on their way to an 8-2 win. Layton Harroll was 2-for-2 with an RBI; Logan Harrell was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Paige Shuman was 1-for-2 with an RBI in the game.

Kaylin Leggett, Taylor Roop and Mindy Myers also had hits for BCHS.

Shelby Barfield got the win by scattering three hits over four innings while striking out three. Brooke Barfield pitched in relief.

The Lady Redskins poured it on in the early innings against No. 1 Gordon Lee as well, scoring six runs in the first two frames and going on to a 7-2 win. Brooke Barfield, who struck out four in six innings, got the win.

Layton Harrell was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Kaylee Perks was 1-for-3 with two RBIs to pace the Lady Redskins. Brook Barfield, Leggett, Logan Harrell, Shuman and Alyssa Edwards also had base hits.

Bryan County (11-7) plays host to McIntosh County at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Fundraiser set

The Richmond Hill High School Softball Booster Club is having a yard sale from 8 a.m. until noon Saturday in the high school parking lot.
