A third suspect, Midway resident Basil Harper, 18, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of armed robbery, stemming from Friday’s armed robbery of two UPS truck drivers in the back parking lot of the Richmond Hill McDonald’s on Hwy. 17.

Two men, Richmond Hill residents Keon Blige and Justin Oliver, were arrested the same day of the crime.

RHPD Chief Billy Reynolds said they suspected Harper since Friday.

Lt. Mike Albritton, the lead investigator on the case, said he signed an arrest warrant against Harper on Wednesday and was driving down Hwy. 17 toward Liberty County to speak with authorities about working with RHPD to apprehend Harper when he spotted Harper on the road.

"Right as I got to the Liberty-Bryan line, I saw Harper driving the opposite way, toward Richmond Hill," said Albritton. "He managed to flee and elude me."

Albritton then contacted Harper’s family to warn them of the dangers involved in harboring a fugitive.

Harper’s mother, Lola Taylor turned Harper into her federal probation officer who turned him over to the U.S. Marshall’s office in Savannah.

Albritton picked up Harper in Savannah and took him to Bryan County Jail where he currently sits with no bond set.

Albritton said he is still gathering evidence on the case.
