A brush fire broke out Sunday afternoon in the 100 block of Robert Hill Road in Midway, destroying a nearby mobile home.
The fire, which began shortly after 1 p.m., engulfed the home before units from the Riceboro Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department and the Midway Fire Department arrived, according to Riceboro Fire Chief Dennis Fitzgerald.
Georgia Forestry Commission personnel arrived with heavy equipment to ensure the fire would not spread or flare up again.
Neighbors said a family with small children had been in the process of moving their belongings into the house, however, law enforcement and fire officials could not confirm the home’s occupancy. No one was injured and it took firefighters less than one hour to get the blazes under control.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
