Surprise ending to appreciation dinner
Williams feted for volunteer service, then wife of 25 years pops the question

Dave Williams knows a thing or two about volunteering.

He’s given his time to groups as diverse as United Way of Bryan County and Youth Challenge and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post 164. In all, there are 13 organizations Williams is involved with to one degree or the other.

Saturday, the Pembroke man found out his work hasn’t gone unappreciated as some 70 people gathered at the J. Dixie Harn Community Center in Pembroke to salute the Air Force veteran.

"It was very humbling, very humbling to say the least," Williams said. "But it’s also gratifying to know that people do appreciate what I do."
