The Kroger fuel station on Ford Avenue has been experiencing shortages of regular and mid-grade gasoline since late Tuesday, but managers expect the problem to be resolved by the end of the day today.
Though store managers contacted by the Bryan County News declined to give their names, they said the shortages have been caused by fuel deliveries delayed due to Hurricane Gustav. Some refineries in Louisiana have closed temporarily due to the storm, forcing fuel providers to alter their routes, taking longer for gas to reach customers in Richmond Hill.
The station has been experiencing record sales this week, spurred in part by residents keeping their gas tanks filled higher than usual as a precaution against Hurricane Hanna.
Kroger has been hit particularly hard, but from a random check it appears fuel supplies at other Richmond Hill stations have remained unaffected and no one has reported shortages in Pembroke.
