Jessica Michelle Cooke, 16, of Ellabell, was seriously injured in a June 22 accident when she pulled out in front of a car she apparently didn’t see and was hit in the driver’s side door.

Cooke was airlifted to a Savannah hospital with head injuries and a broken pelvis, according to Georgia State Patrol Sergeant J. M. Lamb.

Cooke was attempting to turn onto U.S. Highway 301 toward Claxton off of Mosley Road, but a van turned right onto Mosley Road from 301, apparently obstructing her vision so that she didn’t see the Chevy Impala driven by Monroe Stanfield, 23, of Claxton, traveling behind the van, Hogue said.

The GSP received the call at 5:48 p.m.

There were five people in the Impala, counting Stanfield. They were treated and released, said Claxton Fire Chief Harold Rogers, who was at the scene.

Because of her status as a minor, attempts to learn of Cooke’s condition were unsuccessful Friday.
