McDonald's serves $54K in scholarships

McDonald’s of Savannah is helping some of its employees pursue opportunities in higher education.
The co-op selected its 2013 Academic Excellence Award Scholarship recipients, who were announced Sept. 25 at the Richmond Hill City Center.
To qualify for the scholarship, recipients must have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5 and submit a 500-word essay. Recipients are McDonald’s employees who either are current college students or high-school seniors who plan to attend an accredited college or university.
Ten $5,000 scholarships and four $1,000 scholarships were awarded.
“We believe that a thriving community is comprised of dedicated individuals,” Savannah McDonald’s Co-Op President Gary Stanberry said. “Here at McDonald’s, we are proud to award the individuals who have worked hard to help make our company and community a better place and are committed to improving it for everyone in the future.”
The recipients of the $5,000 scholarships are:

• Adam Corwin
• Calvin Atkins
• Justin Stanberry
• Caleesha Jackson
