Spring youth sports on horizon
Weekly FMWR briefing for Jan. 27-Feb. 2

Register now to be a part of Youth Sports’ soccer and track and field programs. The registration deadlines are Feb. 21 for soccer and March 31 for track. Soccer runs March-April and track March-May.

The fee is $40 per child for coed (ages 8-13) soccer. The fee is $20 per child for the non-competitive (ages 4-7) soccer.

The track and field fee (ages 7-14) is $40 per child.

Blind date a book

Single library books seek adventurous readers for a good time, lots of laughs, and romantic moments, running Feb. 1-March 15.

Are you looking for the next great book in your life? Stop by the George P. Hays Library and check out the "Blind Date with a Book" display.

To conceal their identity, books are wrapped. Be surprised and hopefully intrigued enough to read it. When you return it, let the staff know how your date went by filling in a “Rate Your Date” comment card.

Super Bowl bowling

Bowl and watch Super Bowl XLVIII on 42-inch flat screen monitors Feb. 2 throughout Marne Lanes with special prices.

Indoor cycling

Starting Feb. 3, indoor cycling classes will be offered 5-6 p.m. Mondays and 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursdays at 4th IBCT Fitness Center.

The classes are to improve cardiovascular endurance and promote weight loss.

There is a $3 fee per class. Space for each class is limited due to the number of bikes available.

Scuba certification

Become an open-water certified scuba diver and dive two days with BOSS.

Classroom training will be Feb. 7 on Fort Stewart and the open-water dive will be at Florida Freshwater Springs in Jacksonville on Feb. 8-9.

The $445 per person cost includes transportation to and from Jacksonville; certification by First Coast Divers of Jacksonville (course material and diving equipment); hotel stay and lunches on Saturday and Sunday.

Black history tour

Take the Freedom Trail tour of Savannah Feb. 8 with Leisure Travel and see remnants of the Underground Railroad, the Port of Entry, where slaves were brought and sold, old communities and Savannah's African American monument.

Costs are $30 for adults and $20 for children (6-12). Registration will close on Feb. 3.

Valentine’s dinner

Couples are invited to a romantic night out from 6-9 p.m. Feb. 14 at Thunder Run Restaurant in Club Stewart.The cost is $35 per couple for a four-course meal and music.

The price includes a beverage, salad bar, appetizer and a choice of one of four entrees, as well as a shareable dessert. Bar service will be available.

Cardboard boat races

Using only cardboard and duct tape, build a boat that will carry a two-people the length of pools at Stewart's Newman or Huner's Tominac fitness centers?

Cardboard Boat Regattas are scheduled at each facility at 10 a.m. on Feb. 22. There’s no charge and you might win a prize. You build the boat, paddles provided.

There are three categories: kids, kid/adult and adult. There'll also be a best-looking boat prize.

Active duty, family and other authorized center users are welcome to participate.
