Bryan County 4-H

Bryan County 4-H is offering a "Summer of Fun" with the following programs:

Creative Memories Scrapbooking, July 17-18, Richmond Hill Courthouse Annex, from 10 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. and July 19-20, Bryan County Extension Office, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m.. Deadline to register is June 22. Bring a sack lunch. Cost is $25

Nuts about Nutrition, July 23-25, Bryan County Extension Office from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and Bamboo Farms and Coastal Gardens, Hwy. 17, Savannah, July 26-27 and July 30, from 9 a.m. -3:30 p.m. Deadline to register is July 20. Lunch provided. Cost: $25.

Library programs

The libraries in Pembroke and Richmond Hill are continuing their summer programs. Juggler Ron Anglin will appear on June 20 at 10:30 a.m. in Pembroke at Bryan County Elementary School and at 2 p.m. in Richmond Hill at Richmond Hill High School. On June 27, Jeff Rayno will perform his magic and mayhem in Pembroke at 10:30 a.m. and in Richmond Hill at 2 p.m.

If you haven’t signed up for the Vacation Reading Club, there is still time to join in the fun, read and get prizes too. Both libraries will be closed July 4 in honor of Independence Day.

 

American Legion

The American Legion Post 164 and Ladies Auxiliary meet on the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. The post is located on U.S. Highway 280 West of Pembroke. All veterans are welcome.

BCHS reunion

The Bryan County High School classes of 1961, 1962 and 1963 are planning a class reunion for this August. Contact addresses are needed. If you are interested, please contact your classmate: Lavon Nelson (1961), 912-660-9385, Gail Summerford (1962), or Jim Harn (1963).

GARD seeks donations

G.A.R.D. (Georgia Animal Rescue Defence) is holding a dog and cat food drive. Both dry and canned foods are needed. G.A.R.D. houses animals from the area after rescuing them, socializes them and then adopts them out.

Pet food can be dropped off at the following locations: Richmond Hill Animal Hospital, the Pembroke Library, Cross Screen Printing Company in Hinesville and Shaggy Chic in Pooler. Donations of flea medications and other supplies also are needed. Call 653-2480 or 727-2647 for more information.

Insurance help

Georgia residents with insurance problems or questions can receive assistance directly from Commissioner of Insurance John Oxendine's Office by contacting his insurance investigator, who is scheduled to be in Pembroke from 10:30-11:30 a.m. June 21 at the Bryan County Commissioner’s office. Please call 653-3837 to confirm the investigator’s schedule.

In addition to receiving assistance with insurance problems or questions, Commissioner Oxendine’s Office offers complimentary homeowner, automobile and life insurance policy reviews. If you cannot meet with the investigator during these hours there are other ways you can receive assistance. Investigators are available to assist you by phone from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. The toll free number is 1-800-656-2298. You can also contact the office by e-mail. The web address is www.gainsurance.org. Or you can write a letter explaining the details of your problem and mail it to the following address:

Highest Praise

Coastal Community Christian Church will host Highest Praise, a high school musical group presented by Ozark Christian College, in concert on Sunday, June 24, at 7 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.

Highest Praise is made up of 49 high school singers and musicians who perform top contemporary Christian hits and original dramatic skits. The students are selected from applicants around the country to participate in the 11-day, multi-city tour. They rehearse at the college, located in Joplin, Mo., for about a week before they hit the road. The concert at Coastal Community Christian Church is free and a love offering for the group will be collected. The church is located at 10770 Ford Ave. (Hwy. 144 144), about one mile east of Hwy. 17. Revival

Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church will host a revival June 18-22 at 7:30 nightly. Evangelist Clarence E. Boles, Jr., will conduct services nightly. Everyone is invited.

St. Elizabeth VBS

St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, 16491 Hwy. 144, will offer Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m.-noon on June 11-15. All Richmond Hill area youth are invited to attend VBS and youth Saturday evening service on June 16. Call 727-2650 for more information.

 

Beulah Baptist

"The Higher Call Builders" are working at Beulah Baptist Church on the church’s new sanctuary through June 13. Beulah Baptist Church members are collecting bottled water, powdered Gatorade, popsicles, ice cream, hand towels and fresh vegetables. All donations are greatly appreciated. If you would like to come out and share in the great fellowship with the "Builders" and the folks at Beulah, they would love to have you. For more information contact Rev. Dan Bryant at 823-2848.

 

Block party

First Baptist Church of Blitchton will sponsor a "Block Party" Saturday, June 23, 11 a.m. until 2 p.m., for registration to Vacation Bible School. Games, puppets, refreshments and fun for all is planned. All children are invited to come and join Vacation Bible School which will be in progress from Sunday evening June 24 through June 29 from 6-8:30 p.m. Bible studies each evening.

The church is located on Highway 80 and Power Circle Road in Blitchton.

Polio survivors

The Coastal Empire Polio Survivors Association will meet Saturday, June 23 at 10:30 a.m. in Savannah at the Candler Heart and Lung Building, second floor, Room 2 at 5353 Reynolds St. Polio survivors and guests are invited. For information call 355-1221 or go to www.coastalempirepoliosurvivors.org.
