Fundraiser dinner
The August birth month group at Bryan Neck Missionary Baptist Church is sponsoring a fundraiser dinner from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at the church fellowship hall. Dinners of barbecue ribs and chicken, fried shrimp, fried fish, macaroni and cheese, red rice, green beans and cornbread are $10, and a slab of ribs is $20. History re-enactment
Civil War soldier life will be highlighted during the Memorial Day weekend program from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. May 26 at Fort McAllister State Historic Park. The program will focus on the life of common Confederate and Union soldiers. Musket and cannon demonstrations, as well as special salutes in honor of war dead, will be conducted as part of the program. Cost is $6.50 per adult and $3.75 per child. Canoe excursions
Canoe excursions down the Altahama River will start at 9 a.m. May 26 in the Fort King George Historic Site museum in Darien. The four-hour trip will run from Miller Lake to Barrington Lake. Canoes, paddles and life jackets are included. Visitors should bring their own snacks, sunscreen and bug spray.  Cost is $35 per person. Reservations are required. Memorial Day observance
The city of Richmond Hill will hold its annual Memorial Day observance at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28, in J.F. Gregory Park. The featured speaker will be Col. Douglas C. Cardinale, commander of the 2nd Heavy Brigade Combat Team at Fort Stewart. Other speakers include Richmond Hill Mayor E. Harold Fowler and representatives from the American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The ceremony will also include a 21-gun salute and a laying of a wreath to honor the nation’s fallen heroes. The public is encouraged to attend.

Library closed
The Bryan County Public Libraries in Richmond Hill and Pembroke will be closed May 28 in honor of Memorial Day.

Fishing derby
The Richmond Hill Exchange club will host its annual Kids Fishing Derby from 8:30 a.m. to noon June 2 at the Richmond Hill Fish Hatchery. The derby is open to children 15 and under accompanied by their parents or adult guardian. Awards will be presented to children 12 and under. A large supply of free bait and fishing poles will be available at no charge.

Rockin’ the Ark
Richmond Hill Presbyterian Church will host Rockin’ the Ark vacation Bible school from 6-8:30 p.m. June 3-7. All ages are invited to the free event, and dinner and snacks will be served. Register online at rhpchurch.com or call 756-2339.

Bible school

Honor Flight
Honor Flight Savannah is a nonprofit organization dedicated to sending area World War II and Korean War veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit their war memorials. All expenses for the veterans are paid by Honor Flight Savannah, which depends on donations from the community and is not a government-supported program. To donate to Honor Flight or apply for travel to Washington, visit www.honorflightsavannah.org.

Pray for rain
Pembroke Christian Church will host a weekly prayer/praise for rain service at 7 p.m. every Monday. Everyone is invited. This service is sponsored by the North Bryan County Ministerial Association.

Legion meeting
American Legion Post 164 meets at 8 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month at the post home on Highway 280 about a half mile west of Harvey’s Grocery store. All veterans are invited to attend.

Volunteers needed
The Bryan County Senior Centers are in need of volunteers to deliver meals to homebound clients from 10 a.m. to noon Monday-Friday in the Richmond Hill and Pembroke areas.
