Hays celebrate 60th
Anniversary-Hay
Mr. and Mrs. James Hay

Happy 60th Wedding Anniversary to Mr. and Mrs. James Hay. They met at "Wimpie’s" sandwich shop on Barnard street on one cold day in November 1946.

He was talked into going to get a sandwich and to speak to this cute girl who worked there for her father, she was a waitress and a cook. She tiptoed, peeping through the swing door’s window to get a better look at this handsome man - while his grilled cheese sandwich burned on the grill. They courted, walking through downtown Savannah, sitting on a special bench at Forsyth Parks fountain. Less than a year later they eloped to South Carolina and were married. Jeanette was 16 and James was 21 years old. The date was Oct. 1, 1947.

During the past 60 years, they have celebrated together the births of six children, 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two more on the way. Help them celebrate as they reminisce this glorious union that began 60 years ago in Wimpie’s Sandwich shop.
