Blige named Christmas Parade Grand Marshal

At Tuesday's City Council workshop meeting, Mayor Russ Carpenter announced the Grand Marshal for this year’s City of Richmond Hill Christmas Parade.
Janie Blige, long-time Richmond Hill resident and community pillar, was selected.
“Anybody who’s spent any time in Richmond Hill knows Miss Janie,” Carpenter said.
The 27th Annual City of Richmond Hill Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10 am. The parade theme is “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”

Bryan County Commissioners on Tuesday night deferred a decision on whether to rezone some 3.8 acres near the historic Burnt Church Cemetery to allow a Parker’s Kitchen convenience store. The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
