As J.E. Lanier Post 27 begins another year of service, the leadership team is also looking toward an important goal: establishing a permanent home for the Post and the veterans and families it serves.
For years, Post 27 has worked diligently to serve the Richmond Hill community despite not having a building of its own. The good news is that they have land that was donated by the family of KIA/POW WWII Veteran, EM2 Mason C. Poston. The Post currently pays to use facilities throughout the Richmond Hill area for meetings, programs, training, and community activities. While the Post is grateful for the facilities and organizations that have welcomed us, the need for a permanent home has become increasingly clear.
The Post's original “BIG IDEA” remains a vision for the future. However, recognizing the financial realities of that larger project, Post 27 is now preparing to pursue a second building plan that is more achievable while still providing the space our veterans and families desperately need.
Our hope this year is to take meaningful steps toward making that vision a reality.
A permanent Post home would be more than a building. It would be a place where veterans and their families can feel that they belong—a place to call home. It would provide an opportunity for Post 27 to offer resources, training, educational programs, veteran support services, fellowship, community initiatives, and other programs that the Post has not been able to fully provide because it does not have a facility of its own.
“Our veterans deserve a place where they can come together, find resources, build relationships, receive support, and simply know that they have a place to call home,” said Post Commander Sally Rejas. “We have accomplished so much without a building of our own, but I believe it is time for Post 27 to have a home.”
As the Post navigates the financial, planning, and logistical challenges of this important undertaking, they ask their members, community partners, supporters, and friends to keep Post 27 in your prayers. "We believe that with faith, perseverance, community support, and the continued dedication of our members, the right opportunity will come together at the right time."
The goal is not simply to construct a building. The goal is to create a home for veterans and their families—a place where service continues, resources are accessible, relationships are built, and the next generation can learn what it means to serve.
After 27 years of serving Richmond Hill, Post 27 believes the time has come to build not only on its legacy, but also to build a home where that legacy can continue for generations to come.
