The Hinesville Area Arts Council, First Steps and Prevent Child Abuse Liberty are sponsoring a LEGO build-off from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the Liberty County YMCA. Proceeds will go to support child-abuse awareness.
Participants are required to register by Friday, April 22, at www.hinesvillearts.com. There is a $20 registration fee, which includes an event T-shirt and lunch for each competitor. LEGO blocks will not be provided; registrants must bring their own. There will be prizes for each age group. Spectators must pay a $5 entry fee.
Individual or team entries are permitted. Participants must be in grades kindergarten through eighth grade.
Teams may contain between two and four members. All teams must unanimously choose a team name. Projects will be categorized under a “grade zone” based on the grade of the team’s oldest participant and will be judged accordingly.
Refunds will be given for registration cancellations made by Friday, April 22. Refunds will not be given for no-shows or for cancellations made after April 22.
LEGO blocks, registration confirmation and knowledge of the rules are required of all participants. Only LEGO, Megablocks and other compatible plastic blocks and accessory pieces may be used.
Each LEGO structure must be built from scratch during the competition. All blocks must be completely disassembled when the tournament begins. Blueprints, building guides or “cheat sheets” will not be permitted. LEGOs may be separated out in baggies by color and/or size.
The purpose of this competition is to create an original, creative structure. Children should refrain from “memorizing” and rebuilding a kit. The use of kit pieces to create a unique structure is permitted.
The competition judges are not familiar with LEGO kits available on the market as they are not affiliated with LEGO. This competition is based on an honor system and coordinators ask that participants rely only on their creativity.
