Richmond Hill High School ended its playoff run last week when it dropped two games to Buford High, 6-2 and 17-10.
In Game 1, the Wildcats could only manage 3 hits and 2 runs against a good Buford High pitching staff. Walker Taulbee pitched a gem for the Wolves allowing only 2 hits and 1 run, striking out 3, over 6.1 innings.
The Wildcats scored a run in the 1st inning and 1 in the 2nd. Buford scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st and added 3 more, to take game 1, 6-2. Landon Walker started for Richmond Hill and pitched 5.1 innings and took the loss. Every Buford player in the line-up got at least 1 hit. Javy Ojeda had the big hit driving one over the fence for a 2-run homer. Lio Garcia had a double and a triple and scored twice for the Wolves.
In Game 2 both teams combined for 25 hits and 27 runs. The bullpens were busy to say the least, sending 9 pitchers to the mound. The home team for game 2, Richmond Hill, scored 2 runs in the 1st inning, 2 in the 2nd, 4 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, and 1 run in the bottom of the 7th inning. Buford scored 1 run in the 2nd inning, 4 in the 5th, 3 in the 6th, and 9 (nine) runs in the top of the 7th, to defeat the Cats 17-10.
Jax Pursley went 3 for 4, with a triple and drove in 2 runs. Joey Succi went 1 for 1, with a double, walked 3 times, scored twice, drove in 2 runs, and had 1 stolen base. And for the Wolves, someone must have said the right words to Carson Reeves, in between games. Reeves went 5 for 5 at the plate, with a double, stole a base, scored twice, and drove in 7 runs. He also pitched the last 2 innings for Buford, and got the win!
While the Wildcats (14-18) didn't have things end the way they had hoped, the young men fought hard all year long, while playing the 2nd toughest schedule in GHSA Class 6A (the highest classification in Georgia), according to MaxPreps statistics.
