I was raised on a small farm, and we always had a large garden. I would help plant things like tomatoes, green beans, corn, potatoes and onions. I would go out every day to see if the seeds had sprouted and then every day I would check on how much the plants had grown.
Then I would look for the blooms and then the fruit and then the finished product. You can see how I really enjoyed watching things grow.
I feel the same way about enjoying seeing Christians grow spiritually. The Apostle Peter reminded his readers in 2 Peter 3:18 that they should “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ”.
It is natural for a healthy plant to grow and to bear fruit. It also shows that a believer in Jesus is spiritually healthy if they grow in their faith and bear the fruit of godliness and reproduction. It is also true that an unhealthy plant is lacking nutrients if it doesn’t grow but it is also true that there is something missing in the life of an unhealthy Christian.
It takes water and nutrients like rich soil or fertilizer to produce healthy plants, but it takes an intake of God’s Word and fellowship with God and other believers for a believer to grow in their faith.
So, the big question is, are you growing in your faith and if not, what will you do about it?
