Bryan County Schools System has decided to remain closed to students Thursday. Teachers and staff are to report at 10 a.m.

"After studying our local weather conditions and much discussion with emergency management officials, Bryan County Schools will be closed for students on Thursday, January 30," Superintendent Dr. Paul Brooksher said in a release just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. "All Bryan County Schools employees will report to work at 10:00 a.m.

"Temperatures are predicted to drop below freezing around 7 p.m. tonight and remain below freezing until near mid-morning. Based on the information being shared with us, there is a possibility that some of our roadways and bridges in Bryan County will refreeze overnight and become potentially dangerous for travel," he continued.

"Any type of ice on the roads creates an environment that is unsafe to transport students. The weather and conditions may vary throughout different parts of our county, but our decision must be based on where the conditions are potentially the worst. With almost 900 employees and over 8,250 students, safety is our No. 1 priority."
