The Richmond Hill Middle School softball team opens the season today at Metter.

The Wildcats tuned up for the 2015 campaign by winning the Queen of the Hill preseason tournament on Aug. 15 at Henderson Park.
Richmond Hill Middle capped a 4-0 day with a 9-2 victory over Effingham for the championship.

Maggie Batson batted .625 in the tournament and Katie Schneider hit .545 to lead the Wildcats. Other top hitters were Sydney Little (.500), Brooke Kessler (.444) and Mackenzie Delanghe (.375).

Brianna Harrison and Schneider combined to lead the team in the pitching circle, while Kolbie Jung contributed on defense at catcher.

RHMS hosted the tournament. Participating teams from around the area included Swainsboro, Effingham, Ebenezer, West Laurens and Langston Chapel.
