Praying from example and urgency
pastor corner

Throughout scripture we find example after example of individuals making prayer a priority. The book of Psalms is one prayer after another from King David.

Psalm 4 starts out with, “Answer me when I call to you...”. Psalm 5 starts out with, “Listen to my words, Lord...”. In 1 Samuel 1:10, we are told that Hannah, “wept in anguish praying to the Lord”. We are told that Daniel the prophet prayed to the Lord three times each day in Daniel 6:10. Then, in Mark 1:35, we are told that Jesus made it a habit of finding a place to pray early in the mornings.

We are reminded to make prayer a priority in our lives as well. In the Lord’s prayer, where Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray, He uses the phrase, “when you pray”, showing that this was to be a regular habit. In Philippians 4:6-7 we are told to pray about everything and in all situations. Then in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 we are told that we should always have an attitude of prayer with the words, “pray continually”.

So, if prayer is not a daily habit in your life, determine today there will be a commitment to change.
