Rawls named Region 2-AA girls' Player of Year

Bryan County High School junior point guard Olonna Rawls (23) joined the school's 1,000 point club last week.

Bryan County High School junior Olonna Rawls was named the Region 2-AA Player of the Year by the region’s coaches.

Rawls averaged 26.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3 assists and 3.4 steals a game for the Lady Redskins (25-2), who are a No. 2 seed in the upcoming Class AA tournament.

Seniors Jay Black and Shelby Gunn were second-team All Region selections by coaches.

Black averaged 8.7 points and 13.1 rebounds a game. Gunn scored 10.2 points a game while pulling down 6.6 rebounds a contest.

The Lady Redskins play host to Washington County (20-7) at 6 p.m. Friday in the first round of the girls’ state tournament.
