Hoops teams pick up wins

Richmond Hill High School pulled out a 36-32 win over Statesboro on Tuesday in a Region 3-AAAAA girls’ basketball contest.

Courtney Schwartz led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points. The win was the second straight for the Lady Wildcats (4-5, 1-3), who beat visiting Tattnall County 53-43 on Saturday at RHHS in a nonregion game..

The Wildcats (8-1) beat Statesboro 63-56 to run their region record to 3-1. Four players scored in double figures for RHHS, which got 15 points each from Montrell Washington and Isaiah Hill, 13 from M.J. Hall and 10 from Zane McKenzie.

Lady Redskins down Long County

Bryan County High School picked up a Region 2-AA win with a fourth-quarter comeback Friday against Long County.

“We started out slow and again faced early foul trouble,” coach Mario Mincey said. “In the fourth quarter we picked up our intensity and pulled out the win.”

Sophomore JaPaige Jacobs sparked the comeback win with 25points, three steals and four rebounds. Julianne Brown added 15 points and six rebounds “and was clutch in the fourth quarter from the foul line,” Mincey said.

Kaylee Perks had eight points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, the unbeaten Redskins improved to 6-0 with a 69-60 win over Groves on Tuesday behind 24 points from Alex Simmons. Kajana Dixon and Keyshaun Street added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for BCHS.

The Lady Redskins downed Groves 60-58. Individual stats weren’t available.

Wrestling

Richmond Hill High School outpointed Glynn Academy in a dual meet Dec. 9 at RHHS. The Wildcats placed second in the Rebel Invitational Dec. 12. They wrestle at Islands today.
