Runners personal best wins 1,600
Track and Field

The Richmond Hill girls and boys track and field teams participated in the Carrollton Invitational last weekend, finishing seventh and ninth, respectively.

There were 20 girls’ teams and 18 boys’ teams participating.

"It was good competition with a lot of bigger schools, which is just what we were looking for," coach Levi Sybert said. "It will help get us ready for sectionals."

Daryn Petitt set a personal best in winning the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:21. She also finished third in the 800-meter run at 2:24.03.

"She won the 1,600 in about the last 10 meters," Sybert said. "It was a real strong finish."

Also placing for the girls were Rachel Hammesfahr in fourth place in the 3,200-meter run (12:33.96) and Mackenzie Frei in seventh place in the 200-meter dash (26.51).

For the boys, the 4x400 team of Sam James, Jordan Perkins, Shane Rowand and Demond Fleming finished third with a time of 3:24.08, less than 2 seconds off the school record that was set in 2011.

Prather also took second place in the 200-meter dash (22.47), sixth place in the 100-meter dash (11.16) and seventh in the long jump (20-feet 8-inches).

Justin Jeffery was seventh in the high jump (5-feet 8-inches).

The Wildcats will host 11 teams Friday in the Georgia Game Changers Apex Invite, starting at 4 p.m.
