Run across Georgia in Pembroke

The House of Heroes, Inc., fifth annual "Run for the Heroes/Run Across Georgia takes place this week and will go through Pembroke. Nine runners start their 260-mile trip from Fort Stewart to Fort Benning on Wednesday, making their first official stop in Pembroke between 8-11 a.m.

On Saturday, the 27 relay teams tackle the 260-mile course and will arrive in Pembroke from 7 a.m. through early afternoon. Be a part of the celebrsation by making signs to encourage runners, cheer them as they make their way through Pembroke or make a monetary contribution to Houses for Heroes Inc., at the hospitality tent.

Stop by Alco parking lot to welcome heroes. Pembroke Volunteer Fire Department and the Downtown Development Authority will host runners and crews. For information call 653-4413.

BCHS hoops camp

Bryan County High School’s sixth annual Summer Shootout Basketball Camp is June 3-5 at BCHS.

For boys and girls who will be in grades 2-9 next school year, the camp is from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The cost is $35 per child and $30 for each additional family member through Friday. Kids who register before Friday will receive a free camp T-shirt. Late registration is $40 for the first child and $35 for each additional family member. Concessions will be available, students can bring money for snacks. The camp staff will include coaches and varsity players from the Lady Redskins. Adult sports leagues in North Bryan

The North Bryan Recreation Department will have organizational meetings for adults interested in playing in adult softball, adult co-ed softball, adult kickball and adult flag football leagues. The meeting is at 6 p.m. June 3 at the Hendrix Park Gym.

RHHS basketball camp

The Richmond Hill High School basketball staff will hold its annual youth basketball camp May 30-31.

The camp is for boys and girls entering K-8th grade next year. All applications must be received by Friday. Pre-registration cost is $50 per child and $40 for each additional family member. Registration after May 21 will be considered late, and the price will be $60 per child and $50 for each additional family member.

Wildcats Baseball camp

Richmond Hill High School’s 2013 Baseball/Softball Camp is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 3-5 at RHHS.

The camp will focus on the fundamentals of hitting, pitching, bunting, situational hitting, fielding, base running, agility, speed, strength and conditioning. Participants should bring bat, helmet, glove, cleats and gym shoes.

They should also wear baseball pants and protective gear. Each camper can bring their own lunch or buy snacks from the concession stand.

Cost is $75 and includes a T-shirt. Space is limited to ensure a productive player/instructor ratio. Deadline to register is June 1. For more information email cstacybennettjr@yahoo.com.

Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K, Relay

The first Red Hot Chili Pepper 5K & Relay is July 27 at DeVaul Henderson Park in Richmond Hill.

Sponsored by Georgia Game Changers Running Company and Jalepeno’s, the cost is $25 for the 5K, $20 per individual for the relay race and the kid’s relay is free.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female runners in each category. The top overall male and female runner will receiver a Suunoto Core multi-function watch. Race proceeds will benefit the Thornwell Home for Children.

Richmond Hill Soccer Club tryouts

The Richmond Hill Soccer Club’s fall 2013 Academy and Select tryouts will take place in May and June on the turf fields at DeVaul Henderson Park in Richmond Hill.

2013 Academy and U13 Select tryouts for U9, U10, U11, U12 and U13 boys and girls are from 6:30-8 p.m. May 28-30. The U14 through U19 Select tryouts for boys and girls are from 6:30-8 p.m. June 4-6. Robert Sapp Baseball Camp

The 33rd annual Robert Sapp Baseball Camp is accepting applications for its summer session July 8-12 at Richmond Hill Park. Camps are 9 a.m.-3 p.m. and are for boys age 7-14. Six-year-olds may attend if skilled enough to play with 7-year-olds. The fee is $130 with a $10 team discount for five or more players from one spring/summer league team or travel team.

Former Middle Georgia College and University of Georgia baseball coach Robert Sapp will direct the camp. The camp will feature fundamentals, game competition, videos, motivational and instructional lectures and demonstrations.
