Bryan County's Logan Harrell is one of several area athletes performing well at the collegiate level.

Richmond Hill graduate Shaquille Walker was named NCAA National Athlete of the Week for his record-breaking performance in the 800-meter run for Brigham Young University. His time of 1:44.99 at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Arizona, on April 9 broke his own school record and is the fastest time in the nation so far this year.

Bryan County alum Logan Harrell was named Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week in softball for the second time this season on April 4. She hit .467 over four games for Armstrong State as the No. 19 Pirates went 3-1. Harrell hit the game-winning two-run home run in a 3-2 win over No. 18 Young Harris and handled 14 errorless chances behind the plate

Also on the softball field, former Redskin and current Auburn University standout Tiffany Howard was 3-for-10 with two walks, an RBI and three runs scored as the Tigers swept three games from Arkansas. No. 2 Auburn hosts Florida State in a doubleheader Wednesday.

Richmond Hill graduate Chaise Parker went 3-for-6 with an RBI in each game as Emmanuel College swept a doubleheader from Southern Wesleyan, while his former Wildcat teammate Chandler Newman struck out two and did not give up a hit while pitching one inning in relief for Georgia Southern in its 16-1 win over Savannah State.

Former Richmond Hill quarterback Nick Fitzgerald was 10-for-20 passing for 127 yards and one touchdown Saturday in Mississippi State’s spring game.

Bryan County basketball standout Alex Simmons, who at plays Gordon State College, scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association freshman all-star game on April 9.
