Canoochee EMC hosts annual meeting in Claxton
Canoochee EMC

Special to the News

On Tuesday, October 13th, the Canoochee Electric Membership Corporation held its 88th annual members’ meeting at Tattnall Campground in Claxton, Georgia. The meeting was kicked off by the Bryan County High School JROTC presenting the colors.

Over four hundred members enjoyed a beautiful day of business and community. Members were treated to hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, drinks and door prizes before hearing the reports of the cooperative.

Some highlights of interest for Bryan County members include the service of the state’s first electric semi truck charging station, an agreement to serve the new Bryan County High School, a partnership with Excelsior EMC on a substation serving the Ellabell area and a moratorium on service requests for data centers.

A great point of pride for Canoochee EMC is its roundup program. Since last year’s meeting, the program has distributed over half million dollars to applying programs including 80,000 in scholarships. These funds come from members who round their power bills up to the nearest dollar.
