At last Friday’s home football game against Colquitt County, former basketball coach and athletic director Jimmy Hires was honored by those in attendance.

Joined by family and friends, Hires was presented with a plaque showing the renaming of the new Richmond Hill High School gymnasium as “The Jimmy Hires Arena”.

During his time as Richmond Hill boys’ basketball coach, Hires led the Wildcats to three state championships (1988, 1993, and 1994), 12 region titles, and 700 wins. He also notched one state runner-up appearance and one Final Four appearance. In 2014, Hires was inducted into the Georgia Athletic Coaches’ Association (GACA) Hall of Fame.
