Bryan County alum Nick Scott started the 2016 football season right where he left off in 2015, as an all-conference pick.
Scott, a 6-foot junior defensive back at Albany State, was one of nine Golden Rams to receive pre-season honors. Last season he had 57 tackles (49 solos), a fumble recovery and two interceptions and was voted to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference first team.
Through four games this year, he has 20 tackles and two interceptions. Alban State hosts Miles College at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Scott was the 2013 Region 2-AA Player of the Year as a senior at Bryan County. As a running back, he rushed for more than 3,000 yards during his high school career. He also recorded 99 tackles on defense as a senior for the 8-3 Redskins.
Sh’Nia Gordon, a 2015 Richmond Hill grad, has helped the West Virginia University women’s soccer team to a No. 3 ranking in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 poll. The Mountaineers are 8-1-3 heading into their Big 12 opener at home Friday against Baylor.
Gordon, who has started all 33 games she has played at WVU so far, has two goals and two assists this season. She was an All-Big 12 Freshman selection last season. Her senior campaign as a Wildcat included a school-record 59 goals to go along with 12 assists as she helped Richmond Hill reach the 5A quarterfinals.
