Lady Wildcats defend home courts with win

The Richmond Hill girls’ tennis team beat St. Vincent’s 3-2 on Tuesday at RHHS.
Individual winners for the RHHS girls were Haley Smith at No. 2 singles and Megan Bausch at No. 3. Veronica Cox and Sarah Smith won at No. 1 doubles.

The Richmond Hill teams had a solid weekend at the Coastal Empire Tournament, which ran Friday and Saturday in Savannah.
The Richmond Hill boys’ team lost against Benedictine 5-0 on the first match. However, the Wildcats roared back with wins over Screven County (5-0) and Savannah Country Day (5-0).
“After the first round, the boys did great,” RHHS coach Cristina Mancheno said. “We are playing strong and getting better in every match.”

In the girls’ division, the Lady Wildcats won the first round against West Laurens 3-2, lost 3-2 to Brantley County in the semifinals and lost 3-2 to Screven County.

“The girls played great,” Cristina Mancheno said. “We were very close to win against both teams. Unfortunately, we lost most of our matches on the third set.”
Richmond Hill’s Hanna Yontz won all her matches.

Bryan County
The BCHS boys and girls’ teams each lost 5-0 to Vidalia on Thursday at home.
The Lady Redskins’ Laine Christian won the first set at No. 1 singles, forcing the match to go three sets. Scores were 6-4, 2-6 and 0-6.
