Two former Wildcats led their Bulldogs to wins Saturday — one early and one late.
Dominique Allen, playing in his first game of the season, led The Citadel to a 19-14 win over Furman, scoring on a 1-yard touchdown run with less than five minutes to play. Down 14-13, Allen also threw two 20-yard passes on the 10-play, 78-yard winning drive.
The Citadel Bulldogs are now 2-0 overall and in the Southern Conference and play at Gardner-Webb at 6 p.m. Saturday.
Nick Fitzgerald, Allen’s successor at Richmond Hill, set a new school record for quarterbacks by running for 195 yards in a 27-14 Mississippi State win over South Carolina, outscoring the Gamecocks 21-0 in the first half. Fitzgerald threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns as his Bulldogs moved to 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the SEC.
Mississippi State plays at LSU at 7 p.m. Saturday on ESPN2.
