BCH defeats Calvary Day

Number 4 ranked Bryan County High School opened the 2011 softball regular season with a 7-5 win over Region 2A-A foe Calvary Day on Tuesday in Savannah.

Senior Tiffany Howard picked up the win, scattering six hits over seven innings. She struck out seven and walked seven.

Bryan County jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead, then added a run in the second, third, fourth and seventh innings.

Calvary scored four runs in the fourth inning. The Lady Cavaliers added a run in the sixth inning.

Howard, the reigning player of the year in Class A, also led the Lady Redskins at the plate with a 3 for 4 performance that included an inside-the-park home run and a sacrifice bunt.

Taylor Butler was 2 for 5 with three RBIs; Rebecca Strickland was 2 for 3 with an RBI; Sierra Cornell was 2 for 4; Jenna Schuman, Jerri Hines and Amber Neagley had one hit each and Sierra Cornell had a sacrifice bunt.

The Lady Redskins play host to Metter on Thursday at 4 p.m.
