LCR sports wrap: No holiday break with winter sports up and running

By Charlie Moon, Lowcountryradio.

Just when you think it’s time to wind down for the holidays, things get crazy. We’ve got the Richmond Hill High School football Awards Banquet. The RHHS flag football team is one win away from a state semi-final in Atlanta. The Competition Cheer team is deep in its competition schedule. Oh yeah, and both the RHHS men and women’s basketball teams are undefeated at 7-0, and both ranked in the Class AAAAAA top 10.

The men’s hoops squad began the season ranked in the top ten, having returned 4 of 5 starters and a strong bench from a 2nd Round playoff team last season.

The ladies are off to a surprising start, with several question marks headed into the season. Well, needless to say, they’ve answered them all. Both teams are 7-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play after Tuesday’s wins at Glynn Academy. The men crushed the Red Terrors 65-45 while the ladies won a tight one, 40-37.

That’s been the story for those squads. The men have smashed the competition by an average of 25 points. The ladies have garnered four wins by 3 points or less.

Later this week, we’ll announce our Low Country Radio Richmond Hill basketball schedule. We will list the football awards. Plus, there may be a major announcement for a brand new sport and I’ll leave it at that!
