GSU to host GSU Saturday
Eagles to play Georgia State in matinee game

STATESBORO, Ga. – Georgia Southern Men’s Basketball hosts the 2012 “GSU vs. GSU” game as Georgia State comes to Hanner Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. Tickets for the game can be purchased online at GSEagles.com/tickets, or on game day at the Hanner Fieldhouse Box Office.

Saturday’s game is the 45th all-time meeting between the programs with the Eagles holding a 31-13 advantage in the series.GeorgiaSouthern downed the Panthers last time the teams played in Statesboro by a 74-72 margin in overtime. Southern has also taken four of the last five home contests including a 95-82 win to take the 1992 TAAC Tournament Championship and earn a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Junior Eric Ferguson became the 39th member of the 1,000 point club atGeorgiaSouthern when he reached the milestone number against North Florida last Sunday inLas Vegas. He has 482 career rebounds and can become the 10th player inGeorgiaSouthern history with 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career.

The Eagles’ crop of seniors has been excellent this season, but for different reasons. Cameron Baskerville has been lights-out from the free throw line making 14-of-15 from the charity stripe. C.J. Reed ranks second in the Southern Conference by shooting 48% from downtown this season.

GeorgiaSouthern enters the contest at 5-7 after going .500 in the 2012 Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic, scoring wins over Virginia Tech andMississippiValleyStatein the tournament.GeorgiaStateis also 5-7 on the year and has lost its last three games. Last time out, the Panthers fell by five points toRhode Islandon December 22nd.

Freshman R.J. Hunter leads the Panthers in scoring with 15.6 points per game. He is a three-time CAA Rookie of the Week our ofIndianapolis. Junior point guard Devonta White has 14.7 points per game while leading the team in minutes, assists and steals. Forward Manny Atkins is the team’s top shooter from downtown with a 41.7% mark and 13.2 points per game.

Following theGeorgiaStategame, the Eagles will have two more non-conference games before returning to SoCon play on January 12th.GeorgiaSouthern visits UAB on Wednesday, January 2nd before hosting North Carolina A&T on Saturday, January 5th. That game will feature tickets for just $1.
