You cannot do it yourself, part 2

Trying to live as a Christian also takes a lot of work and again one cannot do it by themselves. God stepped in to show the way by giving man the proper directions on how to go to heaven. How else would man know what to do in order to go to heaven?

The Bible – God’s word is just that God’s word. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Tim.3:16, 17). This means that it is from God. God directed men what to write and they did. He chose their words for them.

Peter further explained this when by inspiration he wrote, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:21). God showed man what to do.

When one reads the book of Acts, they can see what their part is in obeying God. The accounts of conversion show that the people had faith in Jesus as the Son of God they repented of their sins they confessed Jesus is the Son of God and they were baptized for the remission of sin. This was how they obeyed the gospel to become children of God.

Doing all those things was their part but they could not have salvation if Jesus had not died for their sins. Read the book and see what happened on the Day of Pentecost, when Philip went and taught the people of Samaria, when the Ethiopian noble man obeyed the gospel, how the Philippian jailor obeyed God. They all found out they needed help.

Even after man obeys the gospel they still must live for God each day, and they need direction on how to do that.

God did not leave man to speculate, look at Col. 3:1: ff. “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:” (Col.

3:1 – 5). Once again man needs help and God provides that help and direction through His word.

Well as I continue my road to recovery from surgery, I realize more and more how much I cannot do it by myself.

The same is true with going to heaven I cannot do it by myself, I need Christ.
