Living takes a lot of things. God has blessed man with physical blessings. God has provided for man from the time of the Garden of Eden. He provided man with a place to live, food to eat and someone with whom to share these things.

Some people struggle today to provide even these necessities for themselves and their families, but most do fairly well.

Everyone needs food and water, shelter, and such. Most people spend the biggest part of their lives trying to provide these things for themselves and their families.

There is nothing wrong with working to have such things as long as doing so does not become one’s only goal in life. Everyone needs to realize that there are other things that are needed. Things that have to do with providing the things needed to spend eternity in heaven. Let’s look at some of those things.

Each person needs to understand the need for spiritual things in their lives. Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33). Those who only think about and work for the physical things of life are often disappointed because those things can disappear. In times of financial crisis in the United States men and women have been known to take their own lives because of the loss of this world’s riches. The one who trusts in God and lives to live for God knows that even if the earthly things are taken away, God is still there. He is a constant. Jesus even said, “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?” (Matthew 16:26).

If one strives only for the goal of becoming rich or richer, they will lose their soul. Riches in themselves are not wrong, but they must not take the place of God.

Striving only to have things should not be how one lives one’s life.

Jesus spoke of how God feeds the birds of the air and how God clothes the earth beautiful wildflowers. Those things cannot take care of themselves and normally have no one to care for them, but they exist. God knows what they need just as He knows what man needs. The problem is with man’s understanding of the power and love of God.

If a person understands the need for spiritual things, they know God must be a part of their life. The person looking into the word of God sees the love God had for mankind. The sending of Jesus to die for the sins of mankind shows the great love God has for mankind (Jno.

3:16). The Bible explains how that when man was in sin, God still sent Jesus to save man (Rom. 5:8). The one who sees the need for spiritual blessings is willing to look into the word of God and to find out what it is that God wants them to do. As they look into the word, they are motivated by the things they read. They find out about Jesus the Son of God who willingly gave Himself for them.
