The Lord’s prayer, part 2
pastor corner

We have been looking at the pattern of prayer that the Lord gave to His disciples in Matthew 6, and how I personally use this as a pattern for my daily prayer.

Last week we saw where the prayer started with, “Our Father in heaven, hollowed be your name”, where we exalt the name of our God in our prayers.

Today we look at a second part which says, “your kingdom come”. I believe this is a desire to see those who are not saved, or who have not become followers of Jesus, to be saved or to become followers of Jesus, and asking God to speak to them through the conviction of His Spirit.

This is where I pray that the Lord will expand His kingdom through my witness first and the witness of my family. I have a list of ministries that I pray for that the Lord will use them to spread the message of a Savior who loves humanity and desires to give them peace, forgiveness and eternal life. This starts with my local church where I have the privilege to pastor, New Beginnings Community. It includes a mission agency we are connected to called “Global Partners”, which sends missionaries around the world. It includes “The Wesleyan Church” of which we are a part of, which works together to enlarge Christ’s kingdom. It includes “World Hope” and “Samaritan’s Purse” as they work around the globe to alleviate poverty.

It includes a group called, “The Voice of the Martyrs”, which represents the persecuted church around the world, who are making a tremendous difference in shining the light of Jesus through their persecution. It includes our own recovery ministry and a ministry called “the Christian Family Center, encouraging those who are suffering from all kinds of addiction to find hope in Jesus. I have a list of pastors who are on the front lines, leading their congregations to expand the kingdom, that I pray for daily.

If you are a follower of Christ, I hope that you are praying for those who need Jesus. I hope you are praying for opportunities to share the message of salvation.

I hope you have identified ministries that you will commit to pray for regularly.

I am inviting you to pray for me and the ministry God has called me to.
