Each person needs to remember that life is uncertain. There are those who die at a young age, others in middle age while some live a long life dying at an older age. The point is that each one should understand that eternity is only a breath away. In the book of James one can read that life is but a vapor, it is here for a time and then vanishes away (James 4:14). One is reminded og this passage when fall comes each year. Fog is present but by midday it has all vanished.
If someone who is older is asked how fast life seem they will tell you just how short, it really seems. One older person was heard to say it is like turning the pages in a book.
Knowing that life is uncertain is important, but the most important thing is to know that after death, each one will be judged (Heb. 9:27). The apostle Paul wrote, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that everyone may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). This passage should cause everyone to have a desire to know just what God wants a person to do in order to please Him. Even with God reveling these things to man there are and have been those who scoff at this idea. Peter wrote about this happening. “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men” (2 Peter 3:3 – 7). The apostle talked about creation, the Nomadic flood and the coming of Christ. Mankind needs to pay attention to God.
God has given man His word so man can know what it is God expects and to show how Jehovah cares for everyone not just a few. John told of the love God has for the whole world (John 3:16; 1 John 3:1, 4:10), as did Paul (Romans 5:8; 8:35 – 39; Gal. 2:20; Eph. 3:19). The Bible is the inspired word of God (2 Tim. 3:16, 17). It is the plenary word of God. This means that it is “God breathed”. It is not of man, for God directed the men who wrote what to say in their writings. Peter also spoke of the inspiration of the writers. “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost” (2 Peter 1:20, 21). So, the word of God should be read and studied every day. It will help man to pass the greatest test one will ever have.
With life being so unpredictable one ought to strive to know more about God.
Such love has never been duplicated as God sent His Only Begotten Son to die for mankind’s sins. This love was freely given. Heaven awaits all who will follow God’s word and obey the gospel of Jesus Christ. Study God’s word so that faith can develop (Rom. 10:17), repent of sin, either those committed, or things omitted, confess the name of Jesus as the Son of God (Matt. 10:32, 33) be baptized for the remission of sin (Acts 2:38) then live faithfully (Rev. 2:10). One can gain the victory of eternal life in heaven.
