The Apostle Paul spoke about how he looked at life regarding his spiritual journey.
He made the following statement in Philippians 3:13 “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead”.
First of all, Paul has decided not to let his past drag him down. By the way, he has a past that he is not proud of. He was a man who persecuted the early Christians and even consented to the deaths of those martyred for their faith in Jesus Christ.
He was determined not to let guilt and condemnation rule his life.
We all have a past and there is nothing we can do in order to change the things said and done. We cannot go back and rewrite history. However, once a person chooses to become a follower of Jesus Christ, his or her past sins are erased, and the truth found in Romans 8:1 which says that “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” can be applied to them.
Secondly, Paul was determined to make sure his future was bright. He was going to put every bit of energy into living a life that would glorify God.
One thing we do have power over is our future. We can determine that each new day will be for the benefit of others and for the honor of the God we serve.
If you have not started your spiritual journey, today can be the beginning of your future.
From today forward you can strive to be everything God has intended for you to be. You can move beyond your past, your guilt and your condemnation into a life of new beginnings.
