In Hebrews 2:1, the author reminds his readers that there is a danger of drifting away from what we know to be right.
It reads like this: “Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it”. This is talking about truths of doing the right things.
What I have found interesting is that the pandemic that we are experiencing has caused a lot of people to drift away from at least one spiritual practice, that of regular church attendance. As I share with other pastors all across the country this seems to be the case. When the pandemic first came into reality everything closed down including churches. There were many voices in our society that indicated church attendance was one of the worse things a person could do to spread the virus. Also, during this time, new habits were being formed, like not going to church. Then there were activities that filled those Sunday morning spots.
The good news is that Christians have the Holy Spirit that is in our lives that brings us back into line with right living. I don’t think the average Christian intended on a changed behavior, but it caught them off guard. What I am seeing is a renewed interest in doing the right things and with many that desire to get back into a regular habit of going to church. They are missing being around other believers and the corporate worship experience.
If we keep our trust in Jesus Christ, the Spirit of God will continually guide us into all truth and will remind us of wrong lifestyles to avoid and right lifestyles to embrace.
