This past Sunday Christians around the world celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave.
I do believe it is a wonderful thing to draw attention to one of the key events of world history, for without the resurrection there would be no Christianity.
This is so important to our faith that we ought to celebrate it each and every day.
After Jesus ascended up to heaven after His resurrection, He told His followers not to leave Jerusalem but to wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit to empower them. When this happened, Peter preached a message explaining to the crowd what had just happened. In this message he spoke about the ministry and the crucifixion of Jesus but also the fact that this Jesus was not dead but had risen from the grave. In essence, the early church was celebrating this resurrection and would continue to do so as well as teach about its importance to the Christian faith. Look at just a part of Peter’s speech where he said, “God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of it.” Peter later wrote to the churches saying these words showing the importance of this resurrection in 1 Peter 1:3, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”
Also, the resurrection of Jesus made it possible for us to be resurrected from an old life to a new one. The Apostle Paul speaks about this truth in Romans 6:4 where he says, “...just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.”
If you are a follower of Jesus, every Sunday should be Resurrection Sunday and every day should be a celebration of the new life you live, made possible because Jesus resurrected and now sits at God the Father’s side interceding for you daily.
