Bryan County residents can expect a new fire station in South Bryan in 2013, as well as improvements to some of the county’s recreational facilities, according to County Administrator Ray Pittman.
Pittman said the construction of fire station No. 10 for the Bryan County Fire Department at WaterWays Township is set to begin in 2013.

“That is completely funded and paid for and done completely by WaterWays Township,” Pittman said, noting the project was part of the agreement reached between the two parties when the development was approved.

The station is expected to be completed by the end of the year, he said.

Additionally, Pittman said the county will work in 2013 with new Fire Chief Freddy Howell to assess some of the department’s certifications and equipment and also look at potential upgrades to the department.

Another important project for Bryan County in the coming year, Pittman said, is improvements to recreational facilities at Hendrix Park in North Bryan and Richmond Hill Park in South Bryan.

The county will use special purpose local option sales tax (SPLOST) dollars to fund several improvement projects to the park facilities, equipment and gymnasiums.

Pittman said new storage facilities and concession stands will be built at both parks, and improvements will be made to the lighting systems. He said some of the large light poles will be replaced or repaired depending on their condition. Some lights will also be put on an automated system, he said.
