Local pastor and retired Army 1st Sgt. Hubert Quiller has been named grand marshal of Richmond Hill’s fifth annual parade honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The parade is Saturday. Jan. 14. It begins at 10 a.m. and goes from Linwood Avenue to Cherry Street onto Ford Avenue and then to City Hall. 

Quiller is the “founding senior pastor” of Restoration Worship Center in Richmond Hill, according to his biography. 

He also serves with the Bryan County branch of the NAACP and the South Bryan Ministerium Alliance.

Quiller began his ministry through a Bible study in his home, and it has grown to an 8,000-square foot building on nine acres off Highway 17. 

The church’s community outreach includes a food ministry, the Bread of Life; nursing home visitation; as well as broadcasts  on radio and Kingdom Purpose TV on Roku. He also has won honors by Los-Angeles-based Indie Music Channel for Best Gospel Artist and Best Male Contemporary Artist, according to his biography. 

Quiller served more than 20 years in the Army “in positions of increasing responsibility,” including as first sergeant of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Training Brigade on Fort Jackson, S.C.

After retirement, Quiller served as an emergency management specialist and operations security manager on Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah. He has a doctorate in transformational leadership from Bakke Graduate University in Dallas, Texas.  

Quiller is married to Johnnie Deloris Maddox Quiller, an Army veteran and the senior environmental health and safety specialist at BASF in Savannah. They have four sons – Alfonso, Nicholas, Joshua and Justus.
