One member of a Savannah-based Meddin Studios film crew shooting the Greg Allman biopic, "Midnight Rider," was killed in a train accident around 4:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon in Jesup, according to Wayne County Sheriff's Office Investigator Joe Gardner. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel. Seven others were injured, one of whom was taken by helicopter to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, where her condition is unknown.

The 20-person crew was filming on Doctortown Road and reportedly had just placed a mattress on the tracks to film a dream sequence when a train, operated by CSX Corp., arrived unexpectedly.

CSX issued a statement on the accident: “CSX is deeply saddened by a tragedy that occurred late today on a CSX rail bridge in Doctortown, Ga., and is cooperating fully with authorities as they investigate. Initial reports indicate that at least three people were injured, one fatally. CSX personnel are working with first responders to meet the needs of those injured.  A train was en route from Memphis to Savannah when the incident occurred.”

The Bryan County News will continue to report on this story and provide more information as details become available.

The vote to defer the decision for 30 days to look into concerns raised by opponents to the project came after several residents – including parents of children buried in the 195-year-old cemetery – urged commissioners to deny the rezoning.
