Officials broke ground at Ash Branch Manor on Sept. 18. The planned 70-unit senior apartment complex at the old Bryan County Elementary School in Pembroke will include apartments, a small clinic, activity areas, and garden areas for qualifying seniors.

Officials said the effort was led by Councilwoman Tiffany Walraven and Sarah Branch of National Church Residences.

The project is expected to take 12 months to complete.
