The Bryan County News office in Richmond Hill will remain open to its valued customers during regular business hours during the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also drop the paywall of its digital edition to allow access to all the local news concerning the virus.

 “We feel the newspaper is an important outlet for news and content pertaining to our local communities,” Bryan County News Publisher Dee McLelland said. “We won’t deal with the hypothetical, but rather the actual happenings and events which make a difference to our readers and residents in our communities.”

Also, the Bryan County News digital edition has removed the paywall so readers can access all of the local information for free without a subscription concerning the virus and its impact.

“Again, we feel it’s in the best interest of the community to allow this access for the coming weeks,” McLelland said. “Now, even if someone can’t get out of the house, they can still stay abreast of the information they need.”

The News will make every effort to ensure what it reports on the pandemic is accurate and timely, and focuses on local impacts. 

“At a time when we’re all swamped with information, not all of which is accurate, we feel it’s best to continue to focus on the basics of reporting and leave the conjecture to cable news and social media,” said Jeff Whitten, editor of Bryan County News. “Our job is to report what’s happening in our communities, and that’s what we’ll continue to do.”

The Bryan County News office at 9998 Ford Avenue, Suite 6, is open 8:30am-5pm, Monday-Friday. The digital edition is accessed at www.bryancountynews.com.
